4th WIEF Report

The 4th WIEF report is now available for reference on the website and in print. The report contains summaries of notes and proceedings of the Plenary and Parallel sessions of the 4th WIEF held in Kuwait on 29th April - 1st May 2008. The Forum was the first WIEF ever held in the Middle East and attracted several leaders from the Gulf, with an impressive line-up of Heads of State from around the region. The leaders present were united in their goal to improve the economic well-being of the people, particularly in the Muslim world. Heads of State present at the Forum were the Emir of Kuwait, HH Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HM King Abdullah II of Jordan, President of Afghanistan, HE Hamid Karzai, President of Senegal and Chairman of the OIC, HE Abdoulaye Wade and the President of Bosnia and Herzegovina, HE Dr. Haris Silajdzic. Heads of Government who participated in the leadership panel on the topic "Islamic countries in a competitive world" were the Prime Minister of Kuwait HH Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister of Bahrain, HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister of the Cote D'Ivoire, HE Guillaume Kigbafori Soro, plus the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), HE Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ali. BBC Middle East Report

This BBC Middle East Report focuses on the impact of the weak dollar on various economies in the Gulf, particularly focusing on Kuwait's decision to de-peg its dinar to the dollar and the pressure on neighbouring Gulf countries to do the same. As the imperative to collaborate and coordinate becomes an increasingly pressing issue in the Middle East, BBC correspondent Nima Abu Wardeh talks to Tun Musa Hitam, the Chairman of the WIEF Foundation on the importance of forging greater business and government partnerships in the region, and of the Muslim world at large. On 22 September 2007, the WIEF International Advisory Panel convened their annual meeting in Jeddah at the headquarters of the Islamic Development Bank.
